35s on a Rubicon without a lift

From 37 owner reports
What owners reportOwners
No rubbing15
Slight rub on the fender liners at full flex5
Clear rubbing off-road4
Didn’t say13

From 37 Rubicon owners on stock suspension running 35-inch tires: 315/70R17, 35x12.50R17 and narrower 35s. Wheel offset and each brand’s real diameter change the fit, so treat these as what owners report, not a guarantee.

Most of the rubbing owners describe is on the plastic fender liners, usually at full flex. Four of the owners with no rubbing say they flexed fully or with the sway bar disconnected. Factory wheels don’t guarantee a clean fit: three of the four who rubbed clearly were on factory wheels, and one owner’s factory wheels touched the sway bar and lower control arm until the owner switched to −12 offset wheels. The fixes owners name are bump-stop extensions with half-inch spacers, a 1.5-inch lift, and wheels with a different offset.

From 15 owner reports

295/70R17 (33 in.)1Doesn’t say

From 15 Sport and Sahara owners, counting only posts that give the tire size and say the suspension is stock.

On bigger tires, check the spare too. Five owners report it rubbing the bumper or tailgate hardware, or not fitting the carrier, and two say it fit as is. Compare any size with your current one in our tire size calculator, or see what each step up changes in 33s vs 35s vs 37s.

Airing down a Wrangler

From 26 owner reports

10 psi or lower6
11–14 psi8
15–19 psi7
20–25 psi4
Above 25 psi1

Owners who go to 10 psi or lower mostly name sand, snow or rocks, and two of those six run beadlocks or a bead-retention device. One owner broke the beads at 6 psi in snow, and one burped air at 15 psi in a rock garden. Two on factory wheels report no trouble at about 12 psi. Read our full guide to airing down.
